Guest Post – Sharing Pretty Things

12 Feb

Hello! I’m Elly, and can usually be found at Rarg. While the Kaloi’s are out enjoying a wonderful time in Hawaii I’ve been asked to distract you while they are gone. Stephanie will be back on the 19th. :)
While I loved that Stephanie asked me to guest post, it took me good a while to come up with a subject to post about. I’m in a bit of a weird place right now, in that I’ve just come out of a long term relationship, and am completely heartbroken. While I can easily spit out a few hundred thousand words on relationships and the associated agony, we’re two days out from Valentines, and I’ve never once seen a post about relationship agony on Casa de Kaloi. I don’t think I wish to be the person to ruin that. Instead, I thought about all the lovely things that Stephanie shares, and thought that perhaps I could do that, and share some pretty things with you all.
Here are a few gorgeous artists that I’m currently loving.

Kelly Vivanco

Kelly Vivanco is an amazing artist. All her works are filled with whimsy and colour and dreams. I adore her style, a few of her pieces remind me vaguely of vintage photographs. She is currently involved at a show at Flatcolor Gallery in Seattle. If you are in the area, go check her out (and people like me who are not in the area will be insanely jealous!)

Allison Torneros is amazing. Her traditional work is filled with colour and gorgeous things. She’s got a brilliant style, pulling together colour, objects and textures into a collaboration of awesome, which has been put to use by some big names (like MTV, Rogue Pictures, Skechers etc).

I’ve been following Carrie’s daily sketch blog for a while now, and honestly, her work is gorgeous. Sometimes in ink, sometimes in coloured pencils or even a biro her sketches are gorgeous. Best, I think, are her sketches of the everyday. People sitting on the beach, ladies drinking coffee at a cafe.

Jen is another artist I’ve been following (though mostly via livejournal, but she also has a blog on her site, too). Jen’s style is brilliant and often heart warming. She illustrates amazing (and mostly ordinary) moments, girls with cigarettes, boys in suitcases, an apprehensive cello player. Also? I love, LOVE that alot of her men have these great big mustaches.

Andrew Bannecker is based in Washington DC, but his work can be found everywhere. His work is filled with imagination and stories, and I love that he mixes flat graphics with intricate details. Honestly, his work is brilliant. I love how he adds depth to each piece with subtle textures. His blog can be found here.

Audrey Kawasaki has to be one of my favourite artists. Her work is enhanced by the wood panels she paints from, and her work is incredible sensual. Her pieces generally feature mysterious and innocent young women, with giant bedroom eyes. Her work is incredibly popular, which isn’t a surprise considering how gorgeous they are. Audrey is also on .
